Story behind Our Printed Tee: “Rory Gallagher”

Rory Gallagher Tee

Not long after Woodstock in 1969, a reporter asked Jimi Hendrix, “How does it feel to be the best guitarist in the world?” And Jimi replied, “I don’t know, ask Rory Gallagher.”

There’s doubt about the origin of the interview since it happened two years before Rory released his first solo album – though he had started his musical career in early 1960’s forming a band called Taste. Yet many believe Jimi’s quotation may indicate an intimate relationship between them and showed Jimi’s humbleness.

Rory is not as famous as Jimi. He undoubted is underrated over his virtuoso skill and influence in rock and blues music. Yet he was one among artists who formed one of the first rock power trio groups, along with groups like Eric Clapton’s Cream and the Jimi Hendrix Experience. His musical legacy became inspiration to some of world’s best musicians such as Slash, the Edge from U2, Gary Moore, and many others.

Thus, knowing this and after listening to his album “Calling Card”, we fell in love with his music and decided to make a shirt as a tribute to him, imaging a hand-draw poster of his live gig performing songs from this his-considered-finest album at Marquee Club – a famous music club in London where most rock bands had played for over 25 years, including Rolling Stones’ first live performance.

Calling Card

“So these couple of kids come up, who’s me and my mate, and say, ‘How do you get your sound, Mr. Gallagher?’ And he sits and tells us. So I owe Rory Gallagher my sound.” Brian May – lead guitarist of Queen.
