How to Care Your Denim

Denim

Denim or jeans is everyone’s favourite, almost everybody has it. As denim gets older, usually it also gets faded. Some people love it. Even denim producers use special technique to create vintage look on new denim. But some don’t. They want their denim kept in mint condition. Thus, in this post we share some tips to take care of your denim, since – unlike the other apparel – denim needs a wee more special treatment.

  1. First of all, pay attention on your denim’s caring label and do what is told, for each type and brand usually has its own caring treatment and differs from one to another. You can find out more about laundry symbols and their meanings here.
  2. You shouldn’t wash your denim too often for it could make your denim worn-out fast, unless it got stain or you just wore it in a mud race. Don’t worry, denim’s fabric won’t get mouldy or stink even though you seldom wash it.
  3. Soak and wash your denim on the reverse side to keep its colour.
  4. Use non-bleach detergent only. Never use chlorine bleach.
  5. Use hand soap to remove stain from your denim. And don’t brush it!
  6. Don’t wash your denim using hot water, for it may shrink it and damage its cloth texture.
  7. Hand wash your denim. But if you have to use washing machine, fasten and zip your denim to keep its shape unchanged and turn the machine on at low cycling mode.
  8. Drop some vinegar into the rinse water, vinegar is useful to add coating to protect your denim’s tint.
  9. Don’t use machine dryer, instead dry your denim in shade to keep its natural tint.
  10. Ironing your denim is not necessary. But if you must iron it, put it inside out and iron it at medium setting.
  11. Never dry clean your denim! That’s mandatory.
